The Epidemic:
• Every 20 seconds throughout the U.S., a fire department responds to a fire. • Every 79 seconds, a residential
fire occurs. • In 2003, there was an increase in civilian fire deaths of 16.1%. • A civilian fire death
occurs on the average every 134 minutes. • Each year, over 100,000 fires are set by children. • The average
American does NOT know how to react in the event of a fire.
The Antidote: •
ONGOING, “INTERACTIVE” EDUCATION & TRAINING
The Problem: •
Limited financial resources force tight budgets which in turn restrict the level, quality and effectiveness of education/training
being delivered into our communities.
The Answer: • FIRE SAFE
AMERICA
The FSA Program Fire Safe America brings ongoing Fire & Life Safety education and training to
the school age children in our communities.
By partnering with the Fire Administration and School Administrations in
the community, FSA puts in place a unique education/training program that will raise the level of Fire & Life Safety Awareness
which in turn will save lives.
Keys
to Effective Education & Training When teaching
children, the more fun and enjoyable you make the learning experience, the greater you increase their chances for retention.
By using our custom designed Fire & Life Safety Centers as the “delivery system” for this life saving education,
we create a true “interactive”, hands-on experience. In a safe “simulated” environment, Children get
to experience what it’s like to be in a burning building and learn how to appropriately REACT.
Another key to
effective education/training is repetition. FSA’s program provides “ongoing” education and training for
school age children grades K through 6th. Year after year, they receive updated, “interactive” training. Each
training module is age appropriate thus ensuring their attention, retention and desire to absorb the life saving knowledge.
As the children progress through the program year after year, they will learn a variety of different Fire & Life Safety
issues which may very well save a life someday.
Benefits to the Community • The community
receives a Fire & Life Safety Center that stays in the community and is used year after year to educate and train children
at the schools on Fire & Life Safety issues.
• Since FSA provides a team of Instructors assigned to each
Safety Center, the Fire Administration no longer has the “lack of personnel” problem for properly training the
community.
• FSA’s “BRICK PROGRAM” is a fundraising program that will build not only educational
and training benefits for the schools, but also financial benefits as well. This program will raise funds that go directly
back to the schools to help finance other programs that benefit the children. With continuous budget cuts in the education
sector, this is a significantly needed benefit.
• As the level of awareness for Fire & Life Safety improves,
the safety of our communities will improve. It will ultimately reduce the number of lives lost senselessly each year from
lack of knowledge and preparation, as well as make the job of our firefighters safer by reducing the number of fires they
are called to.
